I PURCHASED MY DUO 1 1/2 YEARS AGO...I WAS SO DELIGHTED WITH THE CONTROL THAT I IMMEDIATELY ATTAINED FROM PUMPING AND CGM MONITORING. HOWEVER, THAT MY NEXT SYSTEM WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE THIS ONE. PLEASE LET ME EXPLAIN WHY.
BUT FIRST LET ME SAY, I AM STILL HAPPY WITH MY RESULTS AND MY A1c REMAINS AROUND 6.
But now after 18 months I would like to leave my opinion for those considering the One Touch Ping and the Dexcom G4 ! Don't Do it if any of the scenarios below are significant in your opinion!
I purchased these for several reasons.
1) There was advertising at the time regarding CGM and Pump integration along with a VERY CLEAR verbal promise from Animas that FDA approval would be forthcoming within 6 months and I was purchasing free upgrades. So that when the new integration came out, the new system was mine...That was a direct quote. Of course, Not true. It has now been 18 months and speaking with the VP of sales at Dexcom personally, there is no date in sight.
2) There was a complete and amendable food database with the Ping. Not until after my purchase, did it show up on their website that Windows 7 was not compatible with this supposedly advanced software. And the database could not be updated or ammended. I was VERY angry about this...I am a very busy person..Now I use my phone, my cgm, and my meter. and my pump, oh and my computer!...(sorry but there is a nasty word I am think of)
3) The reservoir in the pump only holds 100 Units. I am one of a rare group of Type I diabetics who is insulin resistant...My ratio is n 1:2 it probably should be closer to 1:1 but what would be the point...so guess what...I still use injections and especially when I am out all day and cannot take time to refill...I have to bolus with a syringe.
4) The customer service at both companies and the web sites for re-ordering is nearly ridiculous. I have one of the best insurances available. and I cannot even imagine what other people are going through...(In deference to the nurses at Animas I think they are great!)Dexcom techs routinely treat a caller as though you are an idiot. when of course I am far from that.
The first three issues above are definitely something that a person needs to be informed about before making a decision to purchase. Customer Service in any situation is always the "Luck of the Draw". Yet in this situation my luck has been terrible.
